Support groups for familial Alzheimer’s disease

Connect with others in the familial Alzheimer’s disease (FAD) community who are facing struggles similar to yours.

Our monthly support groups are free virtual meetings that are held on Zoom, facilitated by caring moderators who are licensed health providers. 

We offer groups specifically for people who are at-risk of developing FAD, people who currently have symptoms of FAD, and people who are caring for other with symptoms of FAD.


At-risk/asymptomatic support group

Normally meets on the third Sunday of the month at 2pm Central

This support group is for people who are at-risk for developing FAD. Some attendees may know their genetic status, while others may not.

Normally meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 4:30pm Central

Our symptomatic support group is for people who have begun to show symptoms of FAD.

Normally meets on third Tuesday of the month at 3pm Central

Our early stage caregivers support group is for people caring for loved ones who have begun to show symptoms of familial Alzheimer's disease (FAD).

Normally meets on the third Saturday of the month at 12pm Central

Our caregivers support group is for people caring for loved ones are showing symptoms of familial Alzheimer's disease (FAD). It includes caregivers supporting people with all stages of FAD, from early to late stage.

Other support groups

  • Lorenzo's House -  Light Club - Lorenzo’s House is a nonprofit social impact organization designed to empower youth and families, living with younger-onset dementia. They offer Light Club, a virtual hangout for young people (ages 4-35+) to connect, have fun, share common stories and build an alliance. Groups meet on the 1st Thursday, 2nd Wednesday and 3rd Wednesday.

  • Rush University - Without Warning Program - This program provides support, education and the opportunity for connections with other families who have a person experiencing younger onset Alzheimer's disease. There is weekly Zoom support group for caregivers, a bi-monthly group for children, and three monthly groups for people with dementia (2 facilitated by a board certified music therapist and one which is more verbal based). 

  • Alzheimer's Associations Support Groups - The Alzheimer’s Association offers support groups for caregivers and individuals living with Alzheimer's or other dementia. All support groups are facilitated by trained individuals. Both in-person and virtual support groups are offered.

  • Mesulam Center Early-Onset Family Support Group - Hosted by the The Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, this monthly support group is for family members and care partners of people living with early-onset dementia. It takes place on the second Monday of each month from 4:30 to 6 p.m. CT.
